An-Najah News - Russia's President Vladimir Putin has opened the door to constitutional changes that would allow him to remain in power until 2036, but said he favoured term limits once the country became politically "mature”.

Putin, who has recently announced that there will be big changes in the politics of Russia and constitutional reform, is required by the Constitution to step down in 2024 when his second sequential and fourth presidential term ends.

However, in his speech addressing the Parliament, he backed the proposal to amend the constitution in order to allow him to remain in power.

Putin said: “That the Constitutional Court shall make an official ruling that such an amendment does not violate the main principles and provisions of the constitution”.
